Clean Energy Technology

{Category}

Hydrogen-enriched natural gas heat pump

Thermally-driven heat pump, powered by hydrogen-enriched natural gas.

{Category}

Flat panels solar thermal heat pump

Water-to-water heat pump, transferring heat to or from a thermal storage tank to provide cooling or heating. An additional solar-thermal collector system heats the tank, to provide additional efficiency when the temperatures are low (like ground-source heat pumps).

{Category}

Adsorption heat pump (thermally driven)

Heat pump driven by thermal energy (delivered by steam or by combustion of natural gas), instead of being driven by electric energy (for mechanical heat pumps). Based on adsorption (with a solid adsorption medium) and evaporation of a refrigerant.

{Category}

Pellet burning stove and boiler

Central or individual heating system providing heat and hot water for multiple or individual rooms, automatically (i.e. independently from the loading) and generally using wood pellets, wood chips, chopped logs, cereal plants, or a combination thereof.

{Category}

Metal hydride heat pump

Non-mechanical heat pump, based on adsorption and desorption mechanisms using metal hydrides and hydrogen as a working fluid.

{Category}

High vacuum flat plate collectors heat pump

Heat exchanger that uses solar radiation to heat a water-based system, under high vacuum.

{Category}

Vuilleumier heat pump

Thermally driven machine that cyclically compresses and expands a gas between different volumes. It includes both a heat engine and a heat pump.

{Category}

Wood-burning stove

Direct combustion of wood in an enclosed metal box which can be opened at the front for loading, for which exhaust fumes go in a chimney (as opposed to open-fires, whose efficiency is much lower).

{Category}

Synthetic methane heat pump

Thermally driven heat pump, powered by synthetic methane.

{Category}

Absorption heat pump (thermally driven)

Heat pump driven by thermal energy (delivered by steam or by combustion of natural gas), instead of being driven by electric energy (for mechanical heat pumps). Based on absorption (with a liquid absorption medium) and evaporation of a refrigerant.

Thermo-acoustic heat pump

Thermoacoustic heat pumps work by using an acoustic pressure wave to disburse heating or cooling effects, and generally feature a stack, resonator and heat exchangers. Two recent examples are the Equium heat pump, which rather than a compressor uses a patented sound generator at its core, and BlueHeart Energy, which works with two pistons that oscillate at a frequency of 100 Hz in a closed pressure vessel filled with 50 bar helium. Thermoacoustic heat pumps can reportedly reach higher or lower temperatures than conventional heat pumps, and do not require refrigerants.

Quad-generation

Quadgeneration systems produce heating, cooling and electricity while simultaneously recovering CO2 from the exhaust gases.
