Vapour compression packaged air conditioners

Technology Description

Uses vapour compression refrigeration and a refrigerant system to remove heat from a space and provide cooling. All components (evaporator coil, condenser, and compressor) are located in one cabinet, usually placed outside.

Relevance for Net Zero

Large potential for deployment, driven by rising cooling demand. Possibility to exploit synergies with various thermal needs (heating, cooling), and benefit from technology spillovers. Generally lower efficiencies compared with split air conditioners.

Key Countries

Europe, China, Japan, United States
