Reduction via alkali metal looping
4
Technology Description
In a novel process, iron ore is reduced by using a combination of alkali metals to separate out oxygen and iron. The alkali metals are recycled to release the oxygen and the reduction process starts again in a closed loop. The process requires thermal energy and occurs at temperatures of 300-900 °C, depending on the part of the loop.
