Oxy-fuelling carbon capture (cracking)
5
Technology Description
The fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit is responsible for 20-55% of total CO2 emissions from a typical refinery. CO2 concentration in the flue gas is around 8-20% (volumetric). Oxy-combustion enables the concentration and capture of CO2 in the flue gas from FCC units.
Relevance for Net Zero
Post-combustion capture at an FCC has lower CO2 avoidance costs than oxy-fuelling combustion, but oxy-fuelling combustion has the advantage of increasing the throughput of the FCC
