Vacuum-insulated high-temperature water tank
8
Technology Description
Heat is produced through an electric resistance, the solid state storage media is vacuum-insulated, and the heat exchange to the 90 °C distribution system is embedded in the product. The system could be a cylinder of around 1m-large and 2m-high that can draw up to 20 kW of electrical power.
Relevance for Net Zero
Safe, recyclable, 20-year lifetime, high thermal conductivity, heat storage losses <5%, potential to be less costly, but heavy (1.5 tonnes for domestic applications) and less efficient than heat pumps (as they use an electric resistance).
