State-of-the-art air-to-air heat pump
10
Technology Description
Transfer heat energy from a colder space to a warmer one, providing either heating or cooling (using either outdoor air or indoor air as a source of heat) thanks to vapour compression refrigeration and a refrigerant system. Typically more efficient than electrical resistance heaters, although efficiencies begin dropping significantly with low outside air temperature (below 5°C).
Relevance for Net Zero
Large potential for deployment, driven by rising cooling demand. Possibility to exploit synergies with various thermal needs (heating, cooling), and benefit from technology spillovers.
