Solid-liquid salt thermal storage
8
Technology Description
Heat is stored and released at constant temperature thanks to a change in the phase of a material from the solid state to the liquid state. Such systems would be used for temperatures above 200 °C.
Relevance for Net Zero
Have good thermal conductivity compared to organic materials, small subcooling up to several K,
and low vapour pressure, good chemical stability (except for carbonates and nitrates). However, they have large volume changes and are corrosive
to metals.
