Technology Description
Batteries are smelted (~1 700°C) to gather many of the most valuable metals (Co, Cu, Ni). There is no need for passivation or sorting and risks are low. The main problem is that certain materials like plastic or lithium are lost in the process. Can be followed by hydrometallurgical processes for further separation.
