Technology Description
The Physical Internet is an open and interconnected global logistics system that aims to improve efficiencies across the system compared to traditional, proprietary systems. Goods are delivered through standardised and smart modular packages across all transport modes (e.g. planes, trucks, barges, drones and private cars) and nodes (shared ports, warehouses, and distribution and consolidation centres).
Relevance for Net Zero
Increased utilisation of physical resources could achieve potential systems‚Äêwide efficiency improvement of 20% (Source: The Future of Trucks, 2017).
