Onshore wind
9-10
Technology Description
Wind turbines harness the kinetic energy of wind to produce electricity. The rotor converts the wind energy into rotational energy, which is then used in a generator to produce electricity. Onshore wind turbines are located on land in almost all kinds of locations and regions – at the coast, in flat and complex terrain, in hot and cold climates, forests and deserts – and are an established innovative technology, still growing in size, performance and ancillary services capabilities.
Relevance for Net Zero
Onshore wind remains an important renewable resource.
