Liquid or solid desiccant evaporative cooling system
4
Technology Description
Combination of evaporative and desiccant cooling. Independent control of temperature and humidity. The liquid desiccant, or the rotary wheel in case of solid desiccant, absorbs water vapour due to the difference between the partial vapour pressure of the desiccant and the ambient. Operated by both thermal and electric energy. They can be coupled with membrane to avoid the risk of desiccant contamination.
Relevance for Net Zero
Independent temperature and humidity control. Expected to reduce consumption by 30-90% (and 80% peak energy) compared to state-of-art most efficient cooling technologies. No refrigerants. Deployment is limited to places with low heating and hot water demand (otherwise a net-zero emissions household would need a reversible unit).
