Carbon recycling through thermochemical coupling
3
Technology Description
Carbon monoxide is the main reducing agent used in conventional blast furnace steelmaking, produced in situ from the partial oxidation of coke. This process proposes to capture and recycle the carbon dioxide produced from this using thermochemical splitting of CO2. This creates a closed carbon loop, decoupling the steel production from the need for additional coke use.
Relevance for Net Zero
This is a very early stage potential technology solution.
